Minutes of the Lebanon Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting
June 8, 2000
A special meeting was called at 7:00 a.m. on June 8, 2000. Board President, Jane Myers, called the meeting to order. Those present were Jane, Ron Morelock, Sharon Wood, and Marsha Truitt. Also present were Jerry Alexander, Ed Schwabach, and Todd Meyers.
Ron made the motion and Marsha gave the second to certify that an Executive Session had been held, as advertised, on May 20, according to Indiana Code. The acquisition of property was discussed, as posted.
The property the Library is interested in purchasing is the property known as the Lawler Building. It is currently owned by Don Brandenburg and is listed for sale. The Library is offering Fair Market Value for the property. We are offering the appraised value of $190,000 cash. Mr. Brandenburg is asking $367,000 for the property. The Board hopes that Mr. Brandenburg will forgive $177,000 as a gift to the Library, which he will then be able to use as a tax deduction.
The first offer for the property was made in April 2000. We are at the end of ways to purchase the property. Our recourse is to pursue the right of eminent domain. In eminent domain, the property will be condemned. It is to be used for public use and there is a need.
A motion was made by Ron and seconded by Sharon to proceed with the eminent domain proceedings.
The Library will be closed (by consensus) on July 3.
The meeting for June 12, 2000 has been cancelled.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 27, at 4:30 p.m.
Marsha Truitt, Secretary Jane Myers, President
