Summer Reading 2010:
Make a Splash @ your Library!

Join us this summer and "Make a Splash at Your Library", the Psi Iota Xi Sorority's summer reading program! Summer Reading will begin Monday June 7th and conclude on Saturday July 24th. Children earn prizes by reading just one book per week. The library will host many programs to keep kids busy this summer!

Thanks to Psi Iota Xi Sorority for supporting summer reading at the library since 1938!

Children's Department Summer Reading Program Activities

The Library will be CLOSED Saturday July 3rd and Monday July 5th in Honor of Independence Day!

Tuesday, July 6th at 10:30 am — Story Time

Tuesday, July 6th at 2:00 pm — Shark Show
Learn all about the amazing world of Sharks from Family Time Entertainment!

Thursday, July 8th at 10:30 am — My Pyramid with Maureen Buskirk, Purdue Extension Educator
This session is for parents and their children to learn how to be a healthy kid by making intelligent food choices. Make a healthy snack to take with you and enjoy later in the day! Presented for children in 3rd grade and up. Register at the Children's Desk.

Thursday, July 8th at 2:00 pm — Movie
The library will show a PG rated new release DVD and serve free popcorn and candy. Title will be announced at a later time within the library.

Wednesday, July 14th at 2:00 pm — Read with Devon
Devon is a golden retriever who is a registered pet partner therapy dog with the DELTA society. She loves children and is excited to listen to them read a book. Studies show that reading aloud to an animal can help improve children's reading skills and confidence. Children and their caregivers may stop by to meet Devon and her owner, Deborah Abbott. The library will have a selection of books for all levels of readers to share with Devon. A craft is available while you wait for your turn with Devon.

Thursday, July 15th at 10:30 am — Bilingual Spanish-English Story Time
This is a lively program with books, songs and a special puppet! Stories and songs are conducted in both Spanish and English. Everyone is invited to attend this program that is designed for ages 3 to 6.

Thursday, July 15th at 2:00 pm — Dinosaur Show by Family Time Entertainment
Learn about one of the most interesting puzzles that scientists continue to explore in a fun and silly show that is great for preschoolers through 4th grade!

Tuesday, July 20th at 10:30 am — Bilingual Spanish-English Story Time
This is a lively program with books, songs and a special puppet! Stories and songs are conducted in both Spanish and English. Everyone is invited to attend this program that is designed for ages 3 to 6. Spanish Story Times continue on July 29th and August 3rd!

Tuesday, July 20th at 2:00 pm — Professor Steve
With Professor Steve science is amazing! Professor Steve will show you just how amazing it is through a fun time that both teaches and entertains. Enjoy some of the most awesome demonstrations of science you have ever seen, presented in a fun & interactive way that will stay with you long after the program is over.
