- The Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter Kickoff Event and Party to raise awareness for the Walk to End Alzheimer's (scheduled for Sunday, October 14 at Noon at Military Park in Indianapolis) from 4 - 6:30 pm at City Market (222 East Market St.) in downtown Indianapolis. Attendees will enjoy live music, prizes and other festivities. Caregivers who are coping with Alzheimer s disease will be available to speak with the media about their experience and passion for finding a cure. - Flanagan Frenzy for teens from 2 – 3:30 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). Celebrate the latest works of John Flanagan, author of the Ranger's Apprentice and the Brotherband Chronicles series. - It's a Mystery Book Club at 7 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). August is Sherlock Holmes month at the Library. The Mystery Book Club will be reading and discussing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first book introducing the most famous literary detective of all times. The title comes from Holmes telling Watson "There's the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it." - End of Summer Celebration! from 3 – 4 pm for teens in the Mayfield Rooms at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). Find out the winners of this year's grand prizes, but first Mark from Mark's Ark will be here with a variety of unusual animals for a unique and personal experience! - End of Summer Carnival from 5:30 – 7 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). Help celebrate the end of Summer Reading and the Library's 50th Birthday by attending the End of Summer Carnival. There will be outdoor carnival games and prizes, face painting, a bounce house, a Zionsville fire truck, ZFD firefighters, and music. Mark from Mark's Ark will be here with some of his favorite animal friends. Birthday cake, water and popcorn will be available for everyone. Hot dogs and drinks will be available for purchase from the Friends of the Library. Bring the family to our Fifth Street parking lot and come join the celebration! - Movie, The Smurfs, at Abner Longley Park. Movie starts at dusk. Hosted by the Lebanon Public Library and the Lebanon Parks Department.

- BackPack Attack Festival from 9am-noon at Lebanon Area Boys & Girls Club. Over 45 community partners have collected supplies, including corporations, service organizations, churches and others. The school supplies will be sorted, counted, packed and delivered to Lebanon Area Boys & Girls Club for distribution on August 4. Additional supplies will be delivered, based on need, to the elementary, middle, and high schools in Boone County before school begins in August. The schools will distribute the additional supplies to students who need them. Cash donations also are accepted. Checks can be made out to United Way of Central Indiana with Boone Backpack Attack written in the memo line, and mailed to United Way of Central Indiana - Boone County office, P.O. Box 773, Lebanon, IN 46052. All funds will be used in Boone County for Boone County students. - Sherlock Holmes Film Festival from noon – 5 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). Annual Sherlock Holmes Film Festival hosted by the Illustrious Clients of Indianapolis. Popcorn, snacks and drinks provided. Registration requested. - The Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Annual Street Dance & Taste of Zionsville from 6-11 pm on Main Street (the brick street) in Zionsville. Come for tasty delights from locally owned Zionsville restaurants, pull up a chair or take a table and plan to stay for the evening! Music by local favorite Dave and Rae who'll be playing rock and roll mixed with high energy. Come hear music from the 70's to today! - Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show in Zionsville.
- The Flying Toasters Concert hosted at Lumiere Resort with doors opening at 6pm and band playing at 8pm. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville. $7 cover charge and you may reserve a table of 8 or more by calling 317-769-9000 or email music@lumiere-spa.com. The Lumiere Resort is equally located between Zionsville, Brownsburg and Lebanon in Southern Boone County just off of I65 and State Road 267.
- Z'Sparkle Party and Drag Race to end Alzheimers at 9 pm on Main Stree (the brick street) t in Zionsville. Free and open to the public. (VIP tent opens at 7 pm, admission is $10 to meet and mingle with the "Dragstars" Enjoy food, fun, live music, music and cash bar.) All proceeds go the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter. The community's bravest gentlemen don their best dresses and high heels and "race" down Main Street. - Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show in Zionsville.
- 5th Annual Boone County Battle of the BBQ from 5 - 7 pm at Lebanon Memorial Park. Come and enjoy as the Police, Fire, EMS, area churches, clubs and businesses battle it out to be awarded Boone County's Best BBQ. You are the judge!! Complete BBQ Meal with drink is $10, and meals for kids 3 -10 are $3. - The Humane Society for Boone County's "Paws & Claws Ride For Rescue" motorcycle ride, dinner and auction, is the group's largest annual event, raising capital funds to create a physical shelter for homeless pets in Boone County. Non-riders are also welcome at the event. Registration forms for riders, as well as non-riders, can be obtained by e-mailing a request to hsforbc@gmail.com. The ride will begin at Harley Davidson of Indianapolis at 10 am; ride stops and dinner location to be announced at a later date. A variety of items will be sold at auction following the rider reception and dinner, with proceeds benefiting HSforBC. Cost: $25 per person, $40 per couple. Two Adult Services Librarians will lead a brief book talk highlighting a selection of titles during this ongoing event for interested adults 55 and older. Seniors may meet in the Large Print area on the second floor of the Library. Sessions will continue on Mondays, every three weeks. - End of Summer Shelf Reading Party from 9:30 am – 5 pm for individuals 14 and older at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 North 5th Street, Zionsville, Indiana, 46077). Summer reading is over and the shelves could use some tidying up! The Youth Services Staff is having a shelf reading party to get the books in the children's section back in order. If you are an adult or a teen at least 14 years old, know your ABC's and 1,2,3's, and would like to help us accomplish this humongous task in one day, we could use your talents! We will also be offering pizza and salad for lunch, and snacks at other times of the day to keep us going. If you would like to volunteer for this one-time project, sign up on our website (www.zionsville.lib.in.us), or call Youth Services (873-8342) to register. Whether it's for a few hours or all day, we can use you for this important project!
