- Paws to Read from 4 - 5 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. A monthly program for children 6-10 that encourages reading. Participants may read to a furry, four-legged friend from TheraPets of Indiana on the first Tuesday of each month. The certified therapy dogs help create a safe environment for children as they read aloud and practice their reading skills. Space is limited and registration is required for each program. - The Music Group presents Irish Snapshots from 7 - 8:30 pm in the Lora Hussey Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. In a salute to St. Patrick's Day, Irish composers and Irish-themed music will be featured during this informal music appreciation event. Each session, offered on the first Tuesday of the month, includes listening to and discussing rarely heard classical and jazz recordings. - AARP Tax-Aide free tax assistance from 1-4 pm in the Lora Hussey and Olive Hoffman Rooms at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Taxpayers 60 and older, as well as low- and middle-income earners, may visit the library for free income tax help on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations will not be accepted. - Maple Sugaring from 4 - 5 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Students in grades 1-5 may assume three roles during this tasty hands-on learning program about maple syrup. First, they will serve as naturalists as they follow the process for making real maple syrup, from tree to table. Next, they will try their hands at cooking when they create mouthwatering pancakes, which will lead them to their final and easiest job as taste testers. - Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Training sponsored by the Horizon Emergency Response Team from 8:30 am to 5 pm. The Rapid Response Team Crisis Training will teach how to reach out with God's love in times of crisis. Cost will be $40, and this does not include lunch. This is open to anyone who may be interested including friends and other churches.

- Acrylic Painting for 1-6th grade students from 9-10:30 am at Sugar Creek Art Center (127 S. Pearl Street. Thorntown, IN 46071). Learn about glazing, shadows, textures, and varied techniques. - The Civil War Love Letter Quilt from 2 - 4 pm in the Lora Hussey Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Words on cloth warmed the bodies and hearts of many Civil War soldiers. Now, residents may learn how to recreate the lost art of the Civil War love letter quilt while hearing about the history and touching tales behind them. Instructor Bonnie Carter will lead participants as they build a sample, hand sewn quilt block; just as the families of Civil War soldiers did when they wanted to send some much-needed blankets to their loved ones. Often, the quilter would place some inspiring words in one of the blocks to encourage their soldier during war. All materials will be provided for this Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial program. - Culture at the Creek reception featuring artist Sue Seminick from 6 - 9 pm at Sugar Creek Art Center (127 South Pearl Street, Thorntown, IN 46071). This is Semenick's first solo fine art show at the Sugar Creek Art Center. Entitled Sue Semenick: Contentment in Watercolor, the show opened on February 26 and runs through Saturday, March 28. Visitors can enjoy light refreshments and live music in a casual atmosphere, while browsing Sue's exhibition and the other fine art on display in the Center's three floors of studios. One of 20 resident artists of the Center, Sue will be joined by some of her fellow resident artists working in their studios throughout the evening. Numerous live art demonstrations with visiting local artisans are also planned. Scheduled to demonstrate are fellow artists Sylvia Gray (designs on silk), Mary Jones (oil & fabric painting), Gene Bayliss (weaver), and Christine Meyer (lace maker), among others. Culture at the Creek artist events are casual dress, free and open to all ages.

- "Celebrating Our Irish Heritage" presented by the Heritage Center at Lebanon Public Library from 10 am - noon. Come celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a free program for adults: Darlene Anderson will present "Tracing Your Irish Roots", an exploration of International Vital Records, Irish Passenger Lists, Clans and Families of Ireland and much more. An informational meeting for those interested in a Genealogy Club will also take place and a subscription database that is new to the library will be explored. Refreshments will be served. - The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will close at 5 pm to allow staff to attend the annual recognition dinner. Library milestones and new initiatives, such as the realization of the Evergreen Indiana consortium, will be celebrated. One staff member will be recognized with the Above and Beyond Award. The honor is reserved for the library employee who demonstrates an outstanding level of achievement that is above and beyond their normal job responsibilities. Annette Knox, the library's graphic artist, was the first recipient of the award in 2008.

- Your Yard...Your Trees from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). A comprehensive tree care workshop offered in conjunction with Boone County Soil and Water Conservation District and Hoosier Heartland Resource Conservation & Development Council. Participants will learn about proper tree placement, species selection, planting techniques, mulching, pruning, harmful insects, diseases and more. All ages are welcome and participants will receive a free copy of the manual, Your Yard, Your Trees...A Homeowner's Guide.
