- Friends of Boone County Trails meeting at 6:30 pm in the new Lebanon Library (lower level meeting room). Guest speaker is Dawn Kroh with Green 3, the consultants for the upcoming land acquisition of the Farm Heritage Trail between Lebanon and Colfax and the Thorntown project. - Zionsville Christian Church presents "THE BALANCING ACT," a four-week speaker series focusing on finding balance between career, family, faith, and individual fulfillment. The Honorable Jane Magnus-Stinson, Associate Presiding Judge, Marion Superior Court will kick-off the series on October 12 at 7 pm. Magnus-Stinson was recently appointed to the position of U.S. District Court Magistrate. The speaker for October 19 at 7 pm is Jerry Arthur, President, Cook Pharmica, LLC. Arthur is a 31-year veteran of Eli Lilly & Co, currently building a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical company in Bloomington, Indiana. The speaker for October 26 at 7 pm is Lori Borgman, author of "I Was a Better Mother Before I Had Kids." Borgman's nationally syndicated column appears in the Sunday edition of the Indianapolis Star. The series wraps up on November 2 at 6:30 pm with Anna Quindlen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author will conclude our series. Her latest novel, Rise and Shine, is available in bookstores now.

- "Scrappin' Saturday" sponsored by the Jackson Township Historical Society from 9 am to 5 pm at the Jamestown United Methodist Church at the corner of High and Jefferson Streets in Jamestown. Cost is $20. Plans include lots of door prizes, a 4 foot work area, a free "Make-It-and Take-It" for each person and a "Creative Memories" consultant available for ideas and items to purchase. - Healing Journeys Spiritual Life Center, Inc. first of a series of three workshops on Self, Family, and Community Healing from 9 am to 5pm at St. Francis Episcopal Church (1525 Mulberry St. Zionsville). Registration deadline is Friday, October 27. Workshops are led by Dr. Pat Sheehan, internationally known Trauma and Intimacy Specialist and Cynthia Lynn-Dierdorf, Professional Spiritual Director. First workshop will cover the warrior and community: what is a warrior; what is the warrior's role in community; what is the community's role to the warrior; listening as healing; creating safe space; and story telling as healing. Join Hispanic author and peacemaker Victor Villasenor for an enlightening presentation about slowing down and learning to walk in beauty. - Free Try-It Ballroom and Latin Dance Class at 7:30 pm at Lebanon Sports and Fitness Center. The classes taught by professional dance instructor Abby Prather will be held in the Lebanon Sports and Fitness gymnasium and will continue for six weeks, with each week featuring the basic steps of one of the world's most popular forms of dance. Over the course of the six weeks, students can expect to learn Salsa, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing, and the Cha Cha. Participants need not have any experience and may choose to bring a partner or come alone. Class size is limited in order to insure quality personal instruction. - Holiday Gift Fair sponsored by the Rotary Club of Zionsville from 10 am to 5 pm in Weitzel Hall on the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Other events include a silent auction, cash raffle and fine art auction. The fine art auction will begin at 7 pm and will be held in the former sanctuary of St. Alphonsus adjacent to Weitzel Hall. All proceeds for the event will be donated to local and international organizations that support children, e.g. local public library, nature center, boys and girls club, high school scholarships, and dictionaries for school age children living in Mexico. - Hoosier Art and Poetry from 1 pm to 3:30 pm at the Peace Learning Center at Eagle Creek Park (6040 DeLong Road, Indianapolis). In an American adaptation of the German picture-poem tradition, poet Norbert Krapf will read his work and photographer Darryl Jones will show slides from their collaboration, Invisible Presence: A Walk through Indiana in Photographs and Poems. This workshop will highlight the teamwork between a photographer and a poet, allowing the audience to see how these two Indiana artists combined their talents in creative and spiritual ways. Jones Polaroid manipulations and Krapf's poems reveal spiritual presence within everyday life. Participants will be able to share experiences of invisible presence in their own lives, followed by an optional walk through the woods (weather permitting), which will reveal the principles in nature that lead to spiritual discovery. - In celebration of the Lebanon Public Library's Grand Opening, the "Sugar Bowl" will be featured from 2-3:45pm. Every year, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout® by smoking less or quitting for the day on the third Thursday of November. The event challenges people to stop using tobacco and raises awareness of the many effective ways to quit for good. Donations will be accepted from Monday, November 20, to Wednesday, December 20, 2006. The campaign raised more than 3,200 cans in 2005. And last year, Reporter managing editor George Piper shaved his head when we reached our 2,000 goal. Our target this year is 3,500 food items or dollars ($1 equals one food item). And what will George do when we hit that mark? He'll spend 24 hours on the Reporter roof starting Thursday, December 21. So please help share holiday spirit with those in need, and put George on the roof at least for one day.

And last year, Reporter managing editor George Piper shaved his head when we reached our 2,000 goal. Our target this year is 3,500 food items or dollars ($1 equals one food item). And what will George do when we hit that mark? He'll spend 24 hours on the Reporter roof starting Thursday, December 21. So please help share holiday spirit with those in need, and put George on the roof at least for one day.

- 10th Annual 99.5 WZPL Make-A-Wish Request-A-Thon from 6 am on November 30 to 6 pm on December 1. Listeners will have the opportunity to request ANY SONG in exchange for a $20 donation to the Foundation. Along with an entertaining mix of music, there will be many touching interviews with wish kids, families, and volunteers.
