- Spreading the Love Fundraising Banquet and Silent Auction at Zionsville Fellowship Church (9090 E State Rd 334, Zionsville, IN) benefitting Love INC of Boone County. - Tribute to 9/11 Planned for Zionsville/Boone County at 6 pm at the Zionsville High School Performing Arts Center. The event is designed to bring together friends and neighbors to pay tribute to the tragic events of that day. The ceremony will begin with the procession of a beam from the World Trade Center that has been given to Boone County for use in a permanent monument. The beam will be carried from the parking lot of Traders Point Christian Church, east along SR 334 to Ford Road, north to Mulberry Street, then east to Zionsville High School. It will be escorted by the American Legion and Patriot Riders, as well as local police and fire personnel. An ice cream social will take place from 6 to 7 pm in front of the high school, where attendees can watch the arrival of the beam. Sponsored by the Zionsville Merchants Association, ice cream is available for a suggested donation to "The 9/11 Memorial Monument Fund." Proceeds will support the development of the Boone County 9/11 monument, being constructed with the World Trade Center beam. The feature presentation begins at 7 pm in the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. Highlights will include brief talks by local residents who were first-hand witnesses of the 9/11 events, as well as a keynote presentation by Guy Yasika, who escaped from the Twin Towers after the planes hit. Comments will be made by an air traffic controller who was on duty that day and a rescue worker who was a first-responder to the scene. In addition, patriotic music will be played and a chaplain will speak. Afterward, attendees will be asked to gather around the beam for a candle-lighting ceremony and fireworks. Tickets are on sale for a suggested $10 donation to "The 9/11 Memorial Monument Fund." Seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased at Akard True Value Hardware in Zionsville, Zionsville Chamber of Commerce, Zionsville Times Sentinel, State Bank of Lizton (Anson and Lebanon) and The Lebanon Reporter.
- Youth as Resources Grant Workshop at 6:30 pm at the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth Street, Zionsville). Information about project funding will be covered at this YAR-sponsored workshop for adults and teens. Youth as Resources, a program of United Way of Central Indiana, awards project funds for volunteer service projects designed and carried out by youth to serve their community. Youth groups that use creativity and energy to meet community needs may apply for funds to cover project expenses, materials, transportation and youth recognition. Up to $1,200 is available per grant. Youth groups must have an adult advisor and a not-for-profit sponsor, which may be a school, church, youth-serving or community agency. Additional workshops on Monday, September 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Thorntown Pubic Library, 124 N. The librarians from the Hussey-Mayfield Library and the naturalist from the Zion Nature Center join together to share with you stories, activities and real animals. - VIP Carnival at Zionsville Fall Festival from 5 - 8 pm at Lions Park in Zionsville. The VIP Carnival is for kids with special needs and will be "Very Important People" guests in Lions Park. The goal of this event is to provide families of children with special needs a friendly environment where kids can be kids and enjoy the American tradition of carnivals. This carnival is a stress free event without the emotional/physical drain on parents who might worry if my kids will fit in, or can physically cope in a chaotic environment. It is totally free so that no additional financial burden is placed on the family whose goal should be simply to enjoy a family night out. The spectacular night includes dinner for the entire family and wristbands for two - to enjoy unlimited free access to all the rides at the Fall Festival carnival in Lions Park. The VIP carnival includes dinner, train rides, pony rides, games and fun. Extra professionally trained staff will be present to assist in helping kids on rides, playing games, and much, much more. - Fifty-eighth Annual Zionsville Kiwanis Fall Festival Parade "Visions of Peace" starts at 10:45 pm at Zionsville Community High School and travels a 1-mile route travels along Mulberry Streets, down Ash then Main Street (the beautiful brick street) and ends at Pine Street. Participate in the parade or watch from along the streets. Deadline for parade entries is August 10, 2011. The theme "Visions of Peace" gives a number of choices for parade entries or forget about the theme and just march with a group for the fun of it. - Lebanon Christian Church Worship and Remembrance Service at 10:45 am at the Lebanon Memorial Park (on North Lebanon Street - State Road 39). We will recognize and remember those who lost their lives ten years ago in the tragedies of that fateful day. A blessing will be prayed upon those who willingly risk their lives daily to protect and preserve. Please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. - Walk for Lupus Now of Central Indiana at the Monon Community Center in Central Park in Carmel (1235 Central Park Drive East, Carmel, IN 46032). Registration is at 9 am and the walk starts at 10 am. The 5th annual Walk is a 1-3 mile family friendly event. Central Park is a flat greenway and is stroller/wheelchair friendly. We' ll walk rain or shine (walk will move indoors if the weather is bad).
