8:30 am - 2:45 pm

Mark February 19 on your calendar as the date for the 2005 Sewing Seminar hosted by the Boone County Extension Homemakers. Registration and merchant displays will begin at 8:30 am. A $17.00 registration fee will include all morning demonstrations and lunch. Additional charges will be incurred for the afternoon workshops. These costs will vary according to the workshop you select to attend.

The morning program will include three different demonstrations. The first, beginning at 9:00 am, will be given by Judy Bolinger. She will show how, with some specially selected fabrics, and a special fold, you can make a pillowcase for any holiday or school color.

At 9:50 am Shawna Taylor, Lucas Sewing Centers in Avon, will be demonstrating the special features and firn of embroidery machines.

The last morning demonstration, quick crazy quilting, will be given by Sara Carter, Arbuckles Railroad, Noblesville, beginning at 10:40 am.

Plan to attend any or all of these demonstrations, as they will be frill of techniques and tricks to make sewing more inviting for the beginner and the more advanced seamstress alike.

Gene Bayless will be available during the morning to sharpen scissors. A charge of $2.50 for regular shears or $3.50 for pinking shears will cover his service. Please bring scissors with a name tag attached.

Lunch, catered by Joan Pullen, will be served at 11:30. The merchants exhibits will be open and you will have time to browse, shop, and talk with them about their shops at this time.

During the afternoon, three different workshops will be held. These workshops will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Choices should be made soon as to which workshop you would like to attend. The deadline to sign-up for the workshops will be February 11, 2005. The project and leader of these sessions are as follows:

Cuddle Coat by Louise Beaman - using Stretch & Sew pattern #1028 a warm fleece coat will be made. This project uses a serger. The coat will be cut out at home and brought to the class ready to assemble.

Vera Bradley Style Bag by Deanne Bruggert - This is the same class as offered previously at Thorntown Public Library. Basic sewing supplies, your sewing machine, a zipper foot, and one yard of double quilted fabric are required for this class.

Beginning Quilting by Naomi Booher and Debris Epperson - A sewing machine, basic sewing needs, light beige or light grey sewing thread and bobbins will be needed for this class. A 24 inch square wallhanging will be made. You will learn to sew seams, cut strips, square a block and add a border. This class will be taught from a kit provided by the instructors.

Full information on any of these demonstrations or classes may be obtained by calling the Extension Office at 765-482-0750. A complete list of supplies needed and cost of each workshop will be available at the office. Please call with any questions regarding the sewing seminar.

The afternoon session will end at 2:45 pm. A goody bag will be given to each person as they leave.
