About Us

Symphony at Sunset Group, Inc. is a not-for-profit charitable organization made up of area women whose objective is to generate cultural enrichment for the Boone County community.

Beginning in 1970 as part of the Indianapolis Symphony Society, Boone Symphony Unit, its purpose was to financially support the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra through membership, ticket sales, and fund-raising; along with music education.  Fund-raising efforts included the Harvest Tour of Homes; Tasting Luncheons which provided various dishes to sample with a cookbook available furnishing the recipes; to many and varied themed dinners throughout the years.  Our Cheese Ball sales remain a successful and popular fundraiser to this day.

The Boone Symphony Unit expanded to include opportunities for Boone County children to experience and learn more about the arts by sponsoring local "Lollipop" concerts or sending children to attend the Circle Theatre in Indianapolis for the "Discovery Concerts" series; the young people's art contest - "Symphony in Color"; and fund local music scholarships in both high school and middle school.

In the summer of 1989 the now Symphony Women's Committee, Boone County Unit in conjunction with the Vitalization Committee, Lebanon Parks and Recreation Department, and the Fourth of July Committee brought the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to Lebanon!

Today, the Symphony at Sunset Group, Inc. make it possible for over 400 Boone County fifth and sixth grade students to annually travel to the "Discovery Concerts" series to hear orchestra music; provides an eligible graduating senior who plans to major in some field of music at both Lebanon and Western Boone High Schools with a renewable college scholarship; allows children from all Boone County elementary schools to participate in the statewide "Symphony in Color" contest; brings an instrument "Petting Zoo" to Lebanon and Western Boone elementary students to give them the opportunity to see, hold, and play the various instruments used by the ISO; and along with thousands of music lovers from the community and miles around, now begins the July 4th celebration each year by sharing an evening with family and friends, enjoying a picnic and the always uplifting sounds of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra - including fireworks!
