Programs

Symphony at Sunset Group, Inc. programs benefit both the young and the young at heart from within and without of thesunset crowd Boone County community.  Ranging from the "Discovery Concerts" to Scholarships and including the Symphony at Sunset Pops Concert, we provide something for everyone.

  • Discovery Concerts - The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Educational Program offers these concerts to 5th and 6th graders throughout Central Indiana.  Over 24,000 students annually travel to the Circle Theatre in Indianapolis to hear orchestra music with varying themes.  Thanks to Symphony at Sunset sponsorship, more than 400 Lebanon and Western Boone Elementary students are able to enjoy the concerts each year.
  • Music Awards - Graduating seniors from Lebanon and Western Boone High Schools who plan to major in some field of music are eligible to apply for a music award.  Students complete applications, and appointments are then made for an audition.  Two selections are performed, one of which must be a classical piece from the Indiana Music Educators listing.  Students are judged by a guest panel consisting of music professionals, and the winner's award is presented at the schools' annual honor recognitions event.  The award is renewed each year if qualifying grades are maintained.
  • Symphony in Color - Each year a symphonic music piece is recorded by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and sent to area elementary schools.  Students listen to the tape and create a picture from the imagery the tape inspires.  More than 29,000 elementary students from 103 schools participate annually.  Through the sponsorship of Symphony at Sunset, all Boone County elementary school children are given the opportunity to compete in the contest.  Boone County continues to have representatives as finalists and winners.  We are extremely proud of these young boys and girls!
  • Instrument Petting Zoo - The Petting Zoo is scheduled during the year for elementary students in the Lebanon and Western Boone schools.  This gives the students the opportunity to see, hold, and play the various instruments used by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
  • Symphony at Sunset Pops Concert - Thousands of music lovers from the community and miles around come to Abner Longley Southside Park in Lebanon at the beginning of the July 4th celebration each year to share an evening with family and friends, picnic, and enjoy the uplifting sounds of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.  The concert includes a glorious fire works display second to none.
