September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library invites all Zionsville residents to get the smartest card of all a library card.
Students of all ages may find that a library card is an important school supply which can help them excel.
Studies show that children who are read to in the home, and who use the library, perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning. "Kids can find research material in a variety of formats at our library," said Teen and Adult Services Department Head Marilyn Martin. "Educational movies, audio books and traditional reference books are available on a range of topics."
Adults and children may also enjoy a wide variety of recreational reading, informative and entertaining programs and book clubs.
"Additionally, the library offers free access to computers where all ages can create documents and multimedia presentations. The Internet is also available as a source for additional information and entertainment," Martin said.
"The best part is: It's all free with a library card," said the librarian.
Registering for a free library card is simple for residents of Zionsville, and Eagle and Union Townships. Interested individuals should visit one of the library's circulation desks and present a driver's license, Indiana State identification card or government-issued photo I.D. which displays their current address. Additional documentation, such as a utility bill, is required when the current address is not on the presented identification. A Post Office box is not an acceptable address.
As a special bonus during National Library Card Sign-Up Month, the library has teamed-up with a variety of Zionsville merchants to reward those who register for a new library card throughout September. Prizes range from free pizza or coffee to $25 coupons.
"It's a fun way to discover the library and explore the wonderfully diverse merchants of Zionsville," said Martin.
