Emergency Assistance

General resource referral, personal and family concerns such as a 24-hour hotline for suicide, mental health issues, substance abuse. Battered women and children are encouraged to call for assistance.

A United Way funded referral agency to assist and advocate for victims of domestic violence in need of services. This agency can assist in emergency placements of victims and their children. Also provides Home Based services, support groups for victims, supervised visitation programs,AAPI- Adult/Adolesent Parenting Inventory Assessments and Parenting Classes, After school programs, Matrix assessments for goals and development, Resource assistance, Career Interest and Development, Anger Management, Depression and suicide Screening and referral program, Suicide prevention/intervention via 24hr crisis hotline (765-482 1599) or office walk-ins, Emergency Mental Health Stabilization Response Team, Mentoring Program, Budgeting programs, Short Term Aftercare for Families and Children at risks.

If you have reason to believe that a child is a victim of child abuse or neglect, they you are obligated by law to report your concerns to the Department of Child Services or the local law enforcement.

INDIANA 2-1-1
Basic needs such as food, housing, utility assistance and transportation. IN211 Centers maintain databases with thousands of resources to meet a variety of needs. Most wireless phone customers do not yet have access to 2-1-1, but IN211 hopes to offer wireless access in 2005. WHAT IS INDIANA 211- A nonprofit organization that works with many partners and relies on financial support from Cinergy Foundation, United Ways, Indiana State Department of Health, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, other funders and individual donors. Provides a longer-term safe place for battered women and their children. This shelter is an out of county shelter that offers numerous services to the families in residence including: counseling, legal advocacy, rape/assault services, support groups, emergency transportation, food and clothing pantry, transitional living apartments.

This program assists all victims of crime for which a person has been charged in a Boone County Court. The program provides assistance to the victim throughout the criminal justice process which can include: assistance with obtaining protective orders and restitution, linkage to community resources, attendance at court with victim, assistance with providing a victim impact statement and advisement of the victim's right to information on court hearings and plea agreements.

Mission Statement: The Domestic Violence Task Force is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to the outreach of community awareness and improvement of community services to families victimized by domestic violence. This group meets monthly to address the needs of this population within Boone County. Meetings are open to the public, but attendance must be pre-arranged.

Counseling Services

Alternatives to Domestic Violence services

This service is offered by Family Service of Central Indiana and consists of an assessment, orientation and 26 weekly group sessions. Families, including children, can come to counseling together, but meet separately with counselors to learn violence avoidance and other skills to break the cycle of violence. All services delivered by a master's level therapist. A sliding fee scale is available, as well as free onsite childcare.

This agency offers numerous services to seniors in Boone County. The staff is knowledgeable about elder abuse and will be willing to answer any questions concerning suspected abuse. See other sections in manual for more information.

Child Abuse

This agency is responsible for receiving and responding to reports of child abuse and neglect. Indiana Code 31-33-5-1 requires that anyone with reason to believe that a child is a victim of child abuse and neglect shall make an oral report to the local child protection office or local law enforcement.
