- Friends Day Celebration at Mechanicsburg Christian Church (650 W. Horton Road Kirklin, IN 46050). Services at 10:30 am and Sunday School 9:30 am. Meet Josh Purdy our new minister! Meal after the service. We will be enjoying food, family and friends as we all get to know our new minister, Josh and his wife Lauren. We will have a special worship service following the meal;and there will be activities and a inflatable moonwalk for the kids. We are located six minutes north of Lebanon, eight minutes south of Frankfort and 15 minutes northeast of Thorntown. Turn east off of St Rd 39 next to Sigler's Restaurant you will see us when you get to the top of the hill.

- Mock Newbery Youth Committee 2010 for grades 3 – 8 (parents welcome) from 7 - 8 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library (250 N. Fifth St., Zionsville). Attention 3rd- 8th Grade Book Lovers! Would you like to read new, 2010, challenging books then talk about them during our Mock Newbery Committee meetings? Do you like snacks, door prizes, free books? Join student committee host, Laura Rodgers, (Zionsville West Middle School student, and nationally known book review blogger), and your Hussey Mayfield Librarians for a discussion about the best children's books published this year. We will predict the winner, and debate personal favorites. Sign up now for our first meeting, August 5th to talk about the Newbery Award and what makes a good candidate for a Newbery Award winning book. Those that sign up to attend this meeting will know when the new books are available for you to review throughout July, August, September and November. The week of October 18th the top five candidates will be announced. Those on this committee will read these books and vote for their favorite at the final three-hour, December 12 Mock Newbery meeting.

- Swimming and a Movie at Lebanon Memorial Pool - swimming from 7-9 pm and the movie (Flushed Away) begins at dusk. The Lebanon Public Library and Lebanon Parks Department are partnering to do swimming and a moviel. Bring your swimsuit, a lawn chair, and some snacks and join us. Cost is $1 per person. - Polo at Sunset at 6 pm at Hickory Hall Polo Club (7545 East 100 North, Whitestown, Indiana 46075). Bring a picnic dinner, blanket and beverages (no grills) and enjoy the fun and excitement of polo. - Boone County Officers Memorial Ride (Formerly Bob Hawkins Ride) starting at the American Legion Brown-Dolson Post 113 in Lebanon. American Legion Riders will have breakfast available for purchase. Come and enjoy as the police, fire, EMS, clubs, businesses, residents and area churches battle it out to be crowned Boone County's Best BBQ! Open to the public. Live music, corn hole toss competition, children's moonwalk. Complete BBQ meal with drink is $10 donation. Kids 3-10 years $3. All donations go to the Boone County Cancer Society, Inc., a not-for-profit organization serving cancer patients in Boone County.

- Lebanon Community Arts Council presents Shirley Judkins Jazz Combo at 7 pm at the Boone County Courthouse. In addition to her remarkable musicianship, Shirley Judkins, central Indiana's connection to the world and history of Hoosier jazz, will share a wealth of knowledge about the influences of music down through the years, leading up to and including ragtime and jazz. She will also share books by Indiana authors that have written about the role Indiana has had in the history of this popular genre. Are you a photography fan? - Civil War Roundtable meeting at 6:30 pm hosted by the Ralph W. Stark Heritage Center at Lebanon Public Library (104 E. Washington St. Lebanon, IN 46052). Speaking to the group will be Purdue University history professor Robert May. He will give a presentation titled "Lincoln, Terrorism Abroad, and the Causes of the American Civil War." - Helping Her Heal Fund Charity Polo Tournament at Hickory Hall Polo Club in Whitestown. Funds raised to support the Helping Her Heal Fund (a component fund of the Community Foundation of Boone County). The HHH fund's mission is: "A community compassionately providing emotional and financial support to women with female cancers."
- Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction for Mike Gideon from 5-8 pm at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown, Indiana. Sponsored by the Thorntown Christian Church. Our friend and neighbor Mike Gideon has been diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer and we would like to host a benefit dinner and silent auction at the Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown, Saturday August 28th from 5-8pm. Mike is a life-long resident of Boone County, EMT, Volunteer Thorntown Firefighter, 18 year Boone County Reserve Deputy and has hosted a free haunted house in Thorntown for many years. Mike and his wife have 3 young children and he is only 40 years old. Gene and Peggy Poe will be preparing their pulled pork bar-b-que and fixin's. Cost is a $10/person donation (children under 6 are free). Please come donate to make his battle less stressful for him and his family.
