- Teenaged Author Riley Carney to Share Passion at 6 pm at Amore Pizzeria (41 Boone Village, Zionsville). Free pizza, teens and adventure fantasy will go hand-in-hand when 16-year-old published author Riley Carney will discuss her first book, The Fire Stone. Presented by Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library in Zionsville, this intimate face-to-face with a new young-adult fiction author is open to students in grades 6 - 12. The Fire Stone is the first book in Carney's The Reign of the Elements five-book series and relates the story of Matt, a teenager who battles magical forces to save his world. Written while Carney was only 15, the rest of the series has since been completed and includes: The Water Stone, The Wind Stone, The Immortality Scroll and The Final Alliance. This prolific writer is already working on a new urban fantasy trilogy for older teens.
During her talk, Carney will read an excerpt from her book and discuss her passion for eliminating illiteracy for children. That drive prompted her to create a non-profit organization called Breaking the Chain which raises money to help build schools in Africa and create a children’s literacy center in a woman’s shelter.
A question and answer session will follow her presentation, along with a book signing. Copies of her novel will be available for purchase. Interested students should preregister at www.zionsville.lib.in.us or call 317-873-8341. For more information, please call Patricia VanArsdale at 317-873-8341.
